Green Point: One of the Trendiest Spots in Cape Town

The Atlantic Seaboard is a stretch of land hugging Cape Town’s coastline from the V&A Waterfront to Hout Bay. Green Point is situated on this stretch, just before Sea Point, en-route to the popular Camps Bay and Clifton Beaches. Day and night, it’s a distinctively vibrant part of the Mother City and is often referred to as the “soho” of Cape Town, It’s become even more sought after since the development of the hip Cape Quarter shopping precinct.

Why to stay in Green Point, Cape Town

Cape Town’s Green Point has many of the charming characteristics of a small village. These include narrow streets lined with restored Edwardian and Victorian style homes. Its restaurants, cafes and stylish shops quite literally spill out onto the Main Road and it’s rivulet streets. After dark, busy clubs, cabaret and themed restaurants come alive.

An icon of Green Point

This trendy area of Cape Town also lends its name to the red and white candy-striped Green Point Lighthouse. Often incorrectly referred to as the Mouille Point Lighthouse, this beacon dates back to 1824. It’s South Africa’s oldest lighthouse. Today, the very small area in which it is situated (right next to Green Point) is called Mouille Point, hence the common mistake.

Cape Town Carnival Atmosphere

In 2010, South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup. The Cape Town Stadium, unofficially referred to as the Green Point Stadium while in development, hosted a number of soccer matches. Green Point is perfectly positioned for the carnival atmosphere that coincided with the pre and post-match fanwalks and subsequent events. Today the Cape Town Stadium hosts a variety of events from concerts to festivals, corporate exhibitions and sporting events.
