It is at this exciting venue that the Spice Experience takes place, with the evening led by seasoned GOLD employee, Nouvelle.
Hailing from the tiny African country of Burundi, with a childhood ravished by war and hardship, Nouvelle has many a story to share. But despite her suffering, her story is one of hope, of perseverance and one where food sits front and centre. Memories of her big family back home, a love for meals centered around steaming pots, and a knowledge of how spices can be used for everything from cooking to curing aliments – it’s these experiences you will share as Nouvelle takes you on a spice experience at GOLD.
What to expect
The Spice Experience at GOLD is an immersive spice dinner where you will embark on a journey to learn where flavour was born. This unique dining experience will include djembe drumming, an arrival cocktail and wine pairing along with multiple sharing-style dishes. From a green Masala tomato soup, to fiery Harissa chicken wings, butterbean mash with dukkah and Berebere rice – each dish on the menu will give you a unique glimpse into how the various spices are used in African cuisine.
Venture down the spice route with Nouvelle as she explains how spices were used as currency and how they helped to develop the world, all the way from the explorers of Portugal, to the traders of India and farmers of Zanzibar. Taste, smell and delight in an aromatic new world as you learn more about spice pastes and well known African spice mixes.

On arrival, the djembe drumming interactive experience is just the start of the entertainment for the evening. While the highlight of your evening at GOLD is sure to be the delightfully spicy and flavoursome dishes on offer, the entertainment stops at nothing short of amazing. Enter into a land of Mali puppeteers, Xhosa face-painters, Zulu warriors, and even be serenaded by a calabash playing soloist.
